I wanted to share a great opportunity to make a fun impact on the Salem Community. A fantastic parents group, called Parents United here in Salem, MA, is working to put the final fundraising touches on a brand new and beautiful playground to replace our aging and sad one in Salem Common. For many families who live in Salem, as in other urban communities, the Salem Common is our backyard.  But this playground will also be an amazing asset to the community as we try to attract visitors and tourists to our great city to spend the day and enjoy all that there is to offer.

We all have the opportunity to make an impact in this playground effort by making a donation and Parents United has come up with a fantastic and affordable donation option — Donate a brick inscribed with a message of your choosing. I’ll be so excited when Mazie and I head to the playground and she runs around to find her very own brick. Seed Stitch will also have a brick as part of our commitment to the community of which we are a part.

If you have an interest and the means, please make a donation.

I was so excited to be asked to be featured as this month’s community interview on the Crunchy Granola Baby (CGB) blog.  Now if you know me, you know what a fan I am of that store and all the products in it.  In the interest of full and fair disclosure Jennie Cudmore, the proprietor, is one of my dearest friends, Amy the store manager is amazing and a super cool person and my husband does the web design for the store.  BUT that does not bias my opinion on what an asset CGB is to Salem.  If you’re  Salem or have children in your life you have to go there.

Anyway, check out my interview.

Last night was a great reminder what an amazing community Salem, MA truly is.  Despite the torrential downpours early in the day and the seemingly endless rain we’ve had over the last month, Salem came out in force for the Farmer’s Market.  Not only were people out and about but they were excited about the amazing offering from our local farmers, fishermen, and vendors and really seemed to enjoy themselves walking the streets in the drizzly weather.

Every Thursday from 4-7 through October

I love the fact that our farmer’s market also honors our seacoast geography by also featuring local fishing vendors where you can pick up shrimp and lobster. There were so many amazing things to choose and the lush green color of the early season produce was almost psychedelic in color. The intense color inspired me so I thought I’d share the color inspiration with you again.

Isnt nature grand?

The intense greens of the dill, zucchini, and peas mixed with the more earthy tones of browning corn silk husk and the bits of earth left after harvest make this a delectable color palette. Yarn shown in clockwise order Rowan Scottish Tweed 015, Kid Silk Haze 577, Cascade Baby Alpaca 2429, Cascade 220 9865, and Steadfast Fibers Sahara.

Please come out and support our local farmers and vendors at the market as well as the other merchants in Salem who have committed to staying open late Thursday nights as well.

Seed Stitch will be having new sale items in the store every Thursday night.  Some times they’ll be regular stock items and sometimes you’ll find a new assortment of grab bag yarns at big discounts.  You’ll have to stop in to see.
