We’re so excited to add some fabulous new yarn lines to the shop this season.  Thanks to all those that filled out the survey.  We asked what additional fibers or yarns folks might want to see in the shop and we’re so excited to bring in Madelinetosh yarns, which were a big request!

We’ve added Tosh Sock and Toshmerino Light.

What can you expect from Madelinetosh if you aren’t already familiar? Well you’ll find a beautiful selection of natural fibers are soft and supple to the touch and so great to handle.  The fibers are great but in my opinion the colors are even better!  Beautiful depth, great colorways, just a wonder for the eye and they are even more stunning once worked up.

The Tosh Merino Light is so scrumptious. Look at that depth of color!

We’re reviewing new yarns here at A Yarn Tale.   We thought it might be fun to showcase new yarns for the season as they come in and talk about why we like them, why we picked them, and give you some ideas about what you might do with them.

Next up: Rowan British Sheep Breeds Boucle.  I am dreaming of what do with this yarn and having a hard time choosing which one because I keep thinking of ideas.

See super soft and cuddly

See super soft and cuddly

This yarn is a super soft cuddly yarn that is wonderfully sheepy, but not rough and scratchy because it’s made from wonderful Bluefaced Leicester wool.

I'm leaning toward this one. Super cozy right?

So many possibilities with this yarn that knits up at about 2-2.5 stitches per inch. However it only comes in one lovely creamy color, Ecru.  This is the natural wool color and it’s beautiful.

Even though its a boucle, it still works great for cables.

All of these patterns are found in a new book this season from Rowan called Purelife Autumn.

This would be a quick knit and a great wearable piece.

Also thinking of this for a great cuddly hat, leg warmers or how about a fabulous knit toy! Buy it here.

One of my favorite yarns from last season was Rowan’s Alpaca Cotton.  Its such a beautiful yarn and unlike anything else on the market. The construction is really interesting.  The core is a like a tiny fishnet stocking made of cotton and the alpaca is blown into it, making this really soft fuzzy yarn.  Oh and did I mention it’s machine washable?!!

Last season it came in a beautiful array of naturals and this season it’s back with COLORS!

Rowan featured a beautiful book called Winter Solace, which has been admired by so many who walk in the shop as we have a gorgeous shop model of the poncho below.

We love Winter Solace and Rowan has come out with another new and amazing book this year, featuring all of their alpaca yarns called Homestead Classics. I have my eye on this one:

Some of you may be familiar with the Knit Kit, but if you’re not, you simply must get one and get one fast.  These little gems are the “Swiss Army knife” of knitting and are due to be featured on the Martha Stewart show as the craft item of the week!  Congrats to the KnitKit for the fab achievement and for being a staple in our lives.

We now stock two colors, black and the new and improved teal.  The teal retails for a bit more because it has a few upgrades (a two sided crochet hook and a darning needle).

Shown here, tape measure, yarn cutter, double ended crochet hook, and darning needle

These were one of our most popular gifts leading up to the holiday season and then we had a HUGE run on them early in the new year with folks deciding they needed one themselves. We just received another shipment of both teal and black. Don’t miss out. I think after the Martha show, there will be another big rush!

As we know, Rowan hardly ever disappoints and they’ve succeeded again with Rowan Magazine 47 (Buy it now).  It’s out on shelves now, in our store, and up online.  It’s a lovely taste of spring during this particularly cold and snowy stretch of our winter season here in New England.

This issue has several lovely “stories”, which is how Rowan Magazine organizes the collections, and some great features.  The first story is Serenity, which is a deeply feminine story inspired by the serene beauty of far off places.  Next up is Jamboree, which is a fun cheery collection for both men and women and is a bit retro and reminiscent of some of my favorite 80’s classics.  There is also Halcyon days which is beautifully inspired by the scenery of Malta.

There is also a great online feature showcased in the magazine by none other than Kaffe Fassete.  It’s a nice treat and a must see.

As we know at Seed Stitch, crochet is really coming into it’s own this year.  We have so much interest in it and have run tons of crochet classes this winter.  Well the industry is really starting to hear the crochet drum beat and Rowan is sure to answer with some amazing crochet designs in this issue and a soon to be released crochet collection that we’ll stock as well.

Ok I’m so excited about this post today.  We recently received our new Seed Stitch Fine Yarn shirts and I love them!  As some of you may know I spend part of  my weeks in the city working in public relations and marketing for healthcare and life science companies and have for more than 10 years.  So I think that this shirt marries that life with my life as a yarn store owner.

Welcome Yarnamoritis — every fiber lovers disease “an insatiable love of yarn”.  With the route of the word obvious to us all “yarn”, combined with the Latin word “amor” meaning love and the suffix “-itis” denoting a disease.

This is a super soft long sleeved waffle weave shirt

Be the first one on your block to own one!

Of course the only prescription to treat this disease is Seed Stitch Fine Yarn

They come in a wide range of sizes from small to 2XL, but they are unisex and run a little big.

I’m excited to introduce a new product into the shop line up, The Authentic Knitting Board. The first one to land in the shop is a great kit that contains a small knitting board, instructions, and two skeins of yarn to make a scarf.
knitting-board-kit
This would make a great gift for anyone, but I think it would be an especially great gift for the child in your life to get them excited about yarn crafts. This kit sells for $24.95.

The Authentic Knitting Board is based off a centuries old technique but brought back to life by a great local mother daughter team from the North Shore.  Below is a little demo on how the whole thing works.

Stay tuned this winter for more from Authentic Knitting Board at Seed Stitch.  The Board comes in a variety of sizes to make larger projects.  You can do some amazing color work and a nice thick fabric as it creates a “double knit” like fabric.

Never fear yarners…. I’m going on vacation but yarn is most definitely coming with me.  Robbie, Mazie and I will be headed to the west coast for some much needed R&R.

ssfy-fall-09-102 Ok so what am I bringing with me you ask?  I’m still plugging away on my sweater made out of Koigu Kersti from Knit Two Together.  Almost have the whole back done!  So excited about this little lovely knit reindeer that Sharon Brant of Rowan passed along to me last night at our amazing workshop (more to come on that soon).  This little guy is called Pete and is a free pattern from Rowan that I’ll post shortly. He’s made with one skein of Rowan Alpaca Cotton and one Rowan Felted Tweed.  Seriously is he the cutest?!

I’ve also got on skein of an Ella Rae Lace Merino (teal cake) that I’m thinking of as a future addition to the shop and will be hopefully casting on the Ysolda Teague Ishbel shawl.  Oh and one of our Socken Klecks (blue, white, and brown stripe), which is a knitted fabric that you unravel for a pair of socks.  Seems like a lot but you can never be caught on vacation without knitting right?

Oh yes and a lovely little tape measure from KA in my favorite color, hot lipstick pink!
