A great new magazine: Feature on Seed Stitch!
by: Filed under About SSFY, Books and Mags, Salem | Comment (0)There is a great new knitting magazine on the market — Knitting Today! Magazine. It’s a great new publication and in it’s inaugural issue, Seed Stitch was featured!

The article was written by Meganne Fabrega and we’re flattered by her kind words about our shop. Look how fabulous our summer picnic display looks!
Aside from our fab feature in the publication and a wonderful shout out to local favorite eateries, the magazine is full of approachable projects for you, your family and your home. The layout of the publication is also super hip and cool. Cute updated styling, features, and a fun sort of “scrap book” feel. Definitely worth a peek!
AddOne of my favorites back and even better: Rowan Alpaca Cotton
by: Filed under About SSFY, Books and Mags, Customer Projects, Gift Ideas, Handmade, Manufacturers, Products, interviews | Comment (1)One of my favorite yarns from last season was Rowan’s Alpaca Cotton. Its such a beautiful yarn and unlike anything else on the market. The construction is really interesting. The core is a like a tiny fishnet stocking made of cotton and the alpaca is blown into it, making this really soft fuzzy yarn. Oh and did I mention it’s machine washable?!!
Last season it came in a beautiful array of naturals and this season it’s back with COLORS!

6 Beautiful New Colors in this Favorite Yarn
Rowan featured a beautiful book called Winter Solace, which has been admired by so many who walk in the shop as we have a gorgeous shop model of the poncho below.

A favorite garment in our shop
We love Winter Solace and Rowan has come out with another new and amazing book this year, featuring all of their alpaca yarns called Homestead Classics. I have my eye on this one:

Cute huh?
This book features not only Rowan Alpaca Cotton but also Lima, another favorite yarn.
AddRowan Magazine 47 is here!
by: Filed under Books and Mags, Gift Ideas, Products, Salem | Comment (0)As we know, Rowan hardly ever disappoints and they’ve succeeded again with Rowan Magazine 47 (Buy it now). It’s out on shelves now, in our store, and up online. It’s a lovely taste of spring during this particularly cold and snowy stretch of our winter season here in New England.

Doesn't this cover just make you want to spin around
This issue has several lovely “stories”, which is how Rowan Magazine organizes the collections, and some great features. The first story is Serenity, which is a deeply feminine story inspired by the serene beauty of far off places. Next up is Jamboree, which is a fun cheery collection for both men and women and is a bit retro and reminiscent of some of my favorite 80’s classics. There is also Halcyon days which is beautifully inspired by the scenery of Malta.
There is also a great online feature showcased in the magazine by none other than Kaffe Fassete. It’s a nice treat and a must see.

Beautiful color
As we know at Seed Stitch, crochet is really coming into it’s own this year. We have so much interest in it and have run tons of crochet classes this winter. Well the industry is really starting to hear the crochet drum beat and Rowan is sure to answer with some amazing crochet designs in this issue and a soon to be released crochet collection that we’ll stock as well.

Fashion and Crochet Meet
Simply lovely right? Don’t miss out on this great issue. It’s a keeper!

This might be one I have to make

The New Issue of Knitty! Loving the Socks!
by: Filed under Books and Mags, Patterns and Projects | Comment (0)The new Fall issue of Knitty is out and I’m loving these socks!

Hat Heel Sock by Kathleen Sperling
These socks have a cool technique where you knit from the heel out. Check them out, they are really fun. There some really great patterns in this issue and Knitty.com has undergone a bit of a revamp with their site design, looking good.
AddFall Magazines: Vogue Knitting and Interweave Knits
by: Filed under Books and Mags, Products | Comment (1)This week we received two fantastic Fall magazine issues: Vogue Knitting Fall 2009 and Interweave Knits Fall 2009. There are so many projects in here I almost can’t decide what I’d like to tackle first. Vogue has a great hats section and I’ve already picked out this year’s Winter hat for myself and maybe one in there for my mom. Interweave has a fantastic sweaters spread and there are a few that I can easily see myself wearing.

Great stuff in here
Here is a quick look inside. Vogue is on the top left and Interweave on the bottom right. One of our customers is going to make that gorgeous dress on the bottom right.

Oh which one to make
Both are in the store now. I find myself continuously flipping through both for another look. Add
Sneak Peak: Debbie Bliss Magazine Fall/Winter 2009
by: Filed under Books and Mags, Customer Projects, Designers, Products | Comment (1)As you know we are big fans of the Debbie Bliss Knitting Magazine (NOW AVAILABLE) and we’re lucky enough to be able to give you guys a sneak peak of the upcoming Fall Winter 2009 issue due out in September.

I was able to see some of the model garments at TNNA. There are some fantastic patterns and projects including “The Brit Home” which give the issue some English elegance with six patterns including Union Jack cushions, a Welsh blanket and an Argyle dog bean bag. There is a whole section on tweeds, some patterns from the Bears, Blankets, and Booties book, and patterns for toddlers showcased including hats, gloves and scarves in playful animal themes.

Some glamorous knits for a night out on the town using elegant and luxury fibers. As well there is a feature called the “Big Softie” using bulky yarns — four patterns, including two for men.
The Fall Winter 2009 issue will feature Donegal Tweed, Alpaca Silk Aran, Rialto, Cashmerino Aran (one of our shop favorites), Baby Cashmerino, Como, and others.
Debbie Bliss doesn’t disappoint in this issue and I think they just keep getting better and better. We’ll let you know when it arrives and will surely have samples knit up to inspire.
