We were so excited to come home to a package at the door. Oooh what was it?!!!! I giant pile of buttons!

This is the first year we’re offering buttons to crawlers for purchase $1.00. Quantities are limited and will only be on sale during the crawl itself.
AddSeed Stitch is a busy place these days and I’m lucky enough to have a trusty sidekick in all my endeavors. I thought you might all like to see a sneak peak into how the magic happens.

Mazie May helping to ship orders at the post office
Mazie loves helping to ship orders out. I think for a kid there is something magical about the post office. I always imagined a series of slides, tunnels, and conveyor belts, underground moving packages places. I’ve tried to foster that same magical feeling every time we drop packages off together.
Every package at Seed Stitch is shipped with a smile!
AddA great new magazine: Feature on Seed Stitch!
by: Filed under About SSFY, Books and Mags, Salem | Comment (0)There is a great new knitting magazine on the market — Knitting Today! Magazine. It’s a great new publication and in it’s inaugural issue, Seed Stitch was featured!

The article was written by Meganne Fabrega and we’re flattered by her kind words about our shop. Look how fabulous our summer picnic display looks!
Aside from our fab feature in the publication and a wonderful shout out to local favorite eateries, the magazine is full of approachable projects for you, your family and your home. The layout of the publication is also super hip and cool. Cute updated styling, features, and a fun sort of “scrap book” feel. Definitely worth a peek!
AddAs you know, we LOVE Blue Sky Alpaca around these parts. Blue Sky is one of the few remaining companies that send along color cards with short snip-its of each color so we can get an accurate sense of each color in each yarn.
Blue Sky recently sent along these beautiful new boxes full of new color cards. Since space is always at a premium, we decided it was out with the old cards and in with the new ones. Well waste not want not. Michele, one of our fiber consultants, set out to figure out what these little bits of yarn could become. Check it out!

How about this amazing little hat made from just bits!
Michele was just brilliant here. She used each short piece of yarn “spit splicing” them together to form one long chain of multicolored yarn. Another brilliant move here was that she used the bulkiest yarn on big needles at the brim of the hat and then slowly moved down yarn gauge and needle size to shape the hat without having to decrease a stitch until the very end!

Don't you want to put on this cozy little number?
This is one of the softest coziest hats. This hat is not only great inspiration on how to leverage different weights of yarn in one garment and leverage the gauge to help in shaping, BUT it’s also a beautiful study in the Blue Sky Alpaca yarn line. Not only is each yarn wonderful on it’s own but they work so beautifully together.
AddLook what walked in last night!
by: Filed under About SSFY, Customer Projects, Designers, interviews | Comment (1)Trysh Lynch, one of our talented teachers, brought in some show and tell last night during our community knit night.

Look at this amazing cashmere twin set!
Trysh is what I call a no boundaries knitter/crocheter. She often works without a pattern, is a fearless experimenter, and is always adorned in some really interesting and beautiful hand made garment.
She whipped up this AMAZING twin set out of our Jade Sapphire 2ply cashmere. It’s a stunning color, not well shown here because of the shop lights. The shell underneath is made with her leaning hearts crochet about which she was a featured lecturer at the Topsfield fair.

Here is a close up where you can see the detail
The leaning hearts crochet runs horizontally and is a beautiful compliment to the knit short sleeve cardi that is over top and has a vertical line to it.
I wish we could have “squoosh-a-vision” here because the hand on this garment is so scrumptious after it’s been worked and blocked. Trysh is now working on a linen skirt to accompany this outfit. Simply stunning!
AddWow you can tell Halloween season is in full swing. Glow in the dark yarn is FLYING out of here.

This was the scene from overnight glow in the dark orders! What would you make?
AddIt’s the Witch City and we’re in full swing. Get spooky with us!

We're a little witchy
Halloween in Salem is whole season from October first through the big day.

Don't we all have yarn on the brain?
We think it’s time to knit a spell around these parts. How about you?
AddFor those of you local to us, you know we have an AMAZING line up of teachers. Each of them is wonderful, unique and talented and we’re so lucky to have them. We’re equally excited to add to welcome a new addition to our teaching staff with Sean Riley!

You may recognize Sean’s name and for good reason. Sean used to be the guiding light behind Woolcott yarns in Cambridge MA and he is a wonderful pattern designer. He’s currently working on a great how to knitting book from a shop owners perspective. Can’t wait to watch it’s development. Sean’s latest pattern was just featured on Petite Purls.

The Sk8er Chick Sock
If you haven’t met Sean yet, you simply must. Make sure to sign up fast for his first class, a mini Baby Surprise Jacket. The Baby Surprise Jacket is a classic from knitting great Elizabeth Zimmerman. You’ll love this project and Sean.
Check out classes here.
One of my favorites back and even better: Rowan Alpaca Cotton
by: Filed under About SSFY, Books and Mags, Customer Projects, Gift Ideas, Handmade, Manufacturers, Products, interviews | Comment (1)One of my favorite yarns from last season was Rowan’s Alpaca Cotton. Its such a beautiful yarn and unlike anything else on the market. The construction is really interesting. The core is a like a tiny fishnet stocking made of cotton and the alpaca is blown into it, making this really soft fuzzy yarn. Oh and did I mention it’s machine washable?!!
Last season it came in a beautiful array of naturals and this season it’s back with COLORS!

6 Beautiful New Colors in this Favorite Yarn
Rowan featured a beautiful book called Winter Solace, which has been admired by so many who walk in the shop as we have a gorgeous shop model of the poncho below.

A favorite garment in our shop
We love Winter Solace and Rowan has come out with another new and amazing book this year, featuring all of their alpaca yarns called Homestead Classics. I have my eye on this one:

Cute huh?
This book features not only Rowan Alpaca Cotton but also Lima, another favorite yarn.
AddHere’s what some students have to say: Part 1
by: Filed under About SSFY, Customer Projects, interviews | Comment (0)If there is one thing we love to do at Seed Stitch is inspire new folks to pick up needles or a hook and knit and crochet. It’s so great to see students work through questions and technique and create a craft of their own. We’ve had the privileged of teaching so many students at Seed Stitch and we thought that those you thinking about taking a class or pondering whether you can knit or crochet yourself might want to hear from some students just like you.

We have so many amazing teachers and Nikki and Susan learned to knit in Andrea’s beginning knit class.
